Orientation Programs

We are excited that you are making plans for your future at Angelo State University. Our orientation programs are designed to help you make smart choices as you start your college education. In addition to getting advised and registering for classes, you’ll attend information sessions to get better prepared for the semester.

New Student Orientation

Enrolling Summer or Fall 2017 

Specifically designed for the Class of 2021, New Student Orientation is a one-day program that helps you and your family learn more about Angelo State. During orientation, you will have the chance to:

  • Meet other students and make new friends
  • Meet with academic advisers and discuss classes and majors
  • Complete course selections and registration
  • Learn about academic expectations
  • Learn about the university’s services and resources
  • Learn about ASU traditions and how to get involved on campus


The cost to attend an Orientation Program is $25 for students plus $10 for each guest. The number of guests is limited to two. Payment must be made to complete registration.

To register for an Orientation Program, you will use the link provided in an email invitation that will be sent to you at the email address with which you applied to the University. Email invitations will begin sending in January 2017.  All students who have been admitted for Summer 2017 or Fall 2017 will receive links to dates for which you are eligible to register. Orientation Dates

Plan now to attend one of the following dates. Eligibility requirements for each date are listed in parentheses. 

  • Friday, May 19, 2017 (Carr Scholarship recipients who are TSI Exempt/Met)
  • Thursday, June 8, 2017 (Carr Scholarship recipients) 
  • Friday, June 9, 2017 (Met Assured Admission Requirements)
  • Thursday, June 29, 2017 (Met Assured Admission Requirements)
  • Friday, June 30, 2017 (Open to all admitted students)
  • Saturday, July 15, 2017 (Open to all admitted students)

Students must be TSI Exempt, have TSI scores on file, or must bring TSI scores to Orientation in order to be advised or register for classes!

In order to make best use of your advising and registration time during orientation, please ensure we have your TSI scores the week prior to your orientation event. Submit scores to or fax to (325) 942-2553.

The ASU Testing Center will be offering TSI testing the day prior to most Orientation Programs. You must schedule your test in advance. Registration information is found on the Testing Center web page. Overnight accommodations are available for students and their families for a nominal fee and may be reserved when registering for orientation.

Transfer Student Orientation

This orientation program is designed specifically for students transferring from another university and/or college. Transfer Student Orientation is a one-day program that prepares incoming students for success at Angelo State University.

Transfer Student Orientation will:

  • Make you feel at home at ASU as you transition
  • Provide you with tips and strategies for a successful transition
  • Familiarize you with the campus
  • Give you the opportunity to meet future classmates and make friends
  • Equip you with information about available resources, like financial aid, scholarships, tutoring centers, and much more

Plan now to attend Transfer Student Orientation on Friday, July 21, 2017.

Please Note: Advising and registration should be completed prior to attending Transfer Student Orientation.

If you are unable to attend an Orientation event, please follow the instructions for admitted students available on the Admitted Students webpage. Click on “First Semester Prep” under the Can’t Attend Orientation heading.

Pre-Orientation Checklist

You can prepare for your future at ASU by taking care of several of these items before you get to campus for orientation:

  • Submit your TSI test scores to the Office of the Registrar by faxing your score report to 325-942-2553 or by emailing your report to  If you are unable to submit your report prior to Orientation, please bring it with you.
  • Send your Evidence of Vaccination Against Bacterial Meningitis Form to the Registrar’s Office.
  • Send all final transcripts to the Office of Admissions.
  • Double check the status of your financial aid by calling the Office of Financial Aid at 325-942-2246 or checking your account status on RamPort.
  • Apply online for housing. If you’ve already applied, you can access your MyHousing account throughout the summer to check for room assignment and roommate updates.
  • Submit a photo online for your ASU OneCard, your official ASU identification card (you also have the option of taking a photo for your OneCard when you come to campus for orientation).
  • If you plan to bring a vehicle to campus in the fall, purchase your ASU parking pass.

Orientation Group

Orientation Program Activities

New Student Orientation and Transfer Student Orientation check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in the University Center Lobby. The welcome session is at 9:15 a.m. in the C.J. Davidson Center. Students and families can expect to complete their day by 4 p.m.

Here’s a list of some of the activities you can expect at orientation:

  • An official welcome from top ASU administrators
  • Information sessions about building a course schedule, financial aid and health and safety, all with collegiate success in mind
  • A welcome and information for families from current ASU families as well as the opportunity to join the Ram Family Connection
  • Student discussion sessions featuring current ASU students and orientation leaders talking about such topics as recreation activities, student life and the Multicultural Center, as well as the importance of academic advising and course registration.
