Orientation Programs

We are so excited that you are making plans for your future at Angelo State University. We have designed our orientation programs to help you make smart choices as you start your college education. In addition to getting advised and registering for classes, you’ll attend information sessions to get better prepared for the fall semester.

New Student Orientation

Specifically designed for the Class of 2020, New Student Orientation is a one-day program that helps you and your family learn more about Angelo State. During orientation, you will have the chance to:

  • Meet other students and make new friends
  • Meet with academic advisers and discuss classes and majors
  • Complete course selections and registration
  • Learn about academic expectations
  • Learn about the university’s services and resources
  • Learn about ASU traditions and how to get involved on campus

 

All New Student Orientation events are full.

If you are unable to attend an Orientation event, please follow the instructions for admitted students available on the Admitted Students web page. Click on “First Semester Prep” under the Can’t Attend Orientation heading.

Transfer Student Orientation

This orientation program is designed specifically for students transferring from another university and/or college. Transfer Student Orientation is a one-day program that prepares incoming students for success at Angelo State University.

Transfer Student Orientation will:

  • Make you feel at home during TSO and at ASU as you transition
  • Provide you with tips and strategies for a successful transition
  • Familiarize you with the campus
  • Give you the opportunity to meet future classmates and make friends
  • Equip you with information about available resources, like financial aid, scholarships, tutoring centers, and much more

All Transfer Student Orientation events are full.

TRANSFER STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO REGISTER FOR FALL 2016 CLASSES UPON BEING ADMITTED TO ASU. Please follow the instructions for admitted students on the Admitted Students web page.

 

Pre-Orientation Checklist

You can prepare for your future at ASU by taking care of several of these items before you get to campus for orientation:

  • Log on to RamPort, your new online student portal, and get comfortable with the environment. Your log-on credentials will be mailed to you after you register for New Student Orientation.
  • Check your @angelo.edu e-mail address for important information and messages from ASU. This is the official e-mail address ASU will use to communicate with you. You can access this e-mail address through RamPort.
  • Submit a photo online for your ASU OneCard, your official ASU identification card (you also have the option of taking a photo for your OneCard when you come to campus for orientation).
  • If you plan to bring a vehicle to campus in the fall, purchase your ASU parking pass.
  • Send your Evidence of Vaccination Against Bacterial Meningitis Form to the Registrar’s Office.
  • Send all final transcripts to the Office of Admissions.
  • Double check the status of your financial aid by calling the Office of Financial Aid at 325-942-2246 or checking your account status on RamPort.
  • Apply online for housing. If you’ve already applied, you can access your MyHousing account throughout the summer to check for room assignment and roommate updates.

Orientation Group

Orientation Program Activities

New Student Orientation and Transfer Student Orientation check-in will begin at 8 a.m. in the University Center Lobby. The welcome session is at 9:30 a.m. in the C.J. Davidson Center. Students and families can expect to complete their day by 4 p.m.

Here’s a list of some of the activities you can expect at orientation:

  • An official welcome from top ASU administrators
  • Information sessions about building a course schedule, financial aid and health and safety, all with collegiate success in mind
  • A welcome and information for families from current ASU families as well as the opportunity to join the Ram Family Connection
  • Student discussion sessions featuring current ASU students and orientation leaders talking about such topics as recreation activities, student life and the Multicultural Center, as well as the importance of academic advising and course registration.
