Career Opportunities

Through its outstanding science departments, ASU can help you prepare to enter medical, dental, podiatry, clinical lab sciences, chiropractic or optometry school. We can also help you gain acceptance to training programs for occupational therapy, physical therapy, dental hygiene, physician assistant, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and others.

Departmental Highlights

  • Our program consistently has one of the state‚Äôs highest student acceptance rates to health professions schools. The acceptance rate varies from year to year, but is typically more than 50 percent. The statewide average is about 35 percent.
  • Our Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) writes a detailed evaluation for each of our applicants to health professions schools. We regularly receive feedback from health professions schools that ours are the most detailed, informative and useful evaluations they receive. That is because our small classes and personal advising allow our faculty to get to know you personally.
  • ASU has a state-recognized Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) that provides financial support to qualified students. Various other scholarships are also available to pre-health professions students.
  • Pre-health students can major in any field and receive guidance from advisors about fulfilling prerequisite courses and other necessary requirements.
  • Many campus departments offer academic support through free tutoring and peer-led supplemental instruction.
  • Special programs for job shadowing, internships and early admission to professional schools are available to ASU students.
  • Honors Program students are eligible for the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center early admission program.
