Dewane Hughes Art Exhibit

Angelo State University will present an exhibit of sculptures by Dewane Hughes, associate professor of sculpture at the University of Texas at Tyler, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

The Hughes exhibit, which is being held in conjunction with the Third Annual Richard and Pam Salmon Sculpture Competition and Symposium, will be open for free public viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays through Oct. 31 in the EFA Building’s Gallery 193.

A native of Ames, Iowa, Hughes earned a Master of Fine Arts at Montana State University in 1996, then returned to Iowa to build a bronze casting foundry at the University of Iowa, where he served as a sculpture lab technician. He taught sculpture at Graceland University in Iowa and at Missouri Southern State University before coming to Texas. He has served as president of the Sculpture Network of Texas and is on the board of directors of the Texas Sculpture Group, International Sculpture Center Charter. Hughes’ large-scale metal constructions have been exhibited in numerous shows across the nation.

On Friday, Oct. 17, Hughes will be a panelist for the symposium, which is co-sponsored by Angelo State and the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts. The free symposium will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall.
